History

Kuru is an elite hunter of the Fifth Fleet of the Research Commission, a group of talented individuals working to investigate the New World and the phenomenon of the Elder Crossing. While everyone in the Research Commission is considered elite by most standards, the Fifth Fleet is home to some of the best of the best. Among that group is Kuru, her Handler, and Kuru's palico Clyde. Through thick and thin these three have blazed a trail deep into the heart of the New World and fought to bring balance to the local ecosystems and befriend the locals as they go.

It certainly sounds good when you put it like that, anyway.

Personality

When not out in the field, Kuru comes across very casual, almost lazy. She's very friendly, accommodating, and eats enough to choke a poogie. She's fascinated by nature and loves cataloguing endemic life. In fact, she's collected a rather worryingly large menagerie of live research samples (she insists they're not pets, they're just for "observation"). But even so, she treats them with the utmost care, and seems to receive similar affection in return. It's not unusual to find her sprawled out on the bed with her palico and three or four other assorted critters tucked up with her.

She's a pleasant enough conversation partner, but if the subject isn't about hunting or monsters, it's likely she'll come across distracted, eager to get back out there. It's what she was made for, the thing she's good at. It's what makes her useful...

In combat, it can be like a switch is flipped. She becomes a machine, charging into the thick of battle like she's attracted magnetically. Whether she's swinging a hammer or thrusting a gunlance, it's like personal safety is a secondary concern to neutralizing the target. Some who hunt with her have commented on the expression she wears in battle, but she always laughs it off and dismisses it later. While her recklessness has resulted in large gains more often than not, it has not come without its share of injuries, and one doesn't often fight monsters on top of mountains without getting knocked off of them. Luckily her Handler and Clyde have been there to patch her up or drag her back when the worst has happened. But as they look out for her, she fights ferociously to protect them.

While Kuru happily teams up with other hunters to tackle monsters of higher than average threat level, she rarely joins the same team more than once. It doesn't appear to be anything personal, but there's an almost nomadic aspect to it. Only the Handler and Clyde really seem to stick around with her for very long.
